Are you leading a healthy lifestyle? Most of us think we do a fair job of maintaining our health with good eating habits and physical activity. But is enough to be considered healthy? Of course not. Being healthy means being mentally and emotionally active. Being healthy must be part of your overall lifestyle. Living a healthy lifestyle helps prevent chronic diseases and long term illness. Maintain a healthy lifestyle by doing what is right for your body and mind. According to recent study, a very few people actually meet the criteria for a healthy lifestyle.

A healthy lifestyle is not achieved overnight, but we have to do struggle consistently. We should follow a good plan based on healthy habits. By adopting a healthy lifestyle our body and mind will get in to a rhythm that will eventually become second nature.

How to Lead a Healthy Lifestyle?

There are six simple ways for you and your family to lead a healthy lifestyle.

01: Physical Activity & Exercise

It’s never too late to become more physical active, with good diet and daily physical activity you will be wellon your way to a healthy life. Starting exercise at any age will benefit your health.

It is generally recommended that you should get at least 30 minutes of physical activity a day that will not only burn excess calories and strengthen muscles and bones also provide you many other sustainable health benefits. Regular physical activity & exercise is important for the healthy growth, development and well-being of children and young people.

Regular exercise reduces neuropathic pain, blood sugar levels and controls blood pressure. In addition, this contributes to decrease in stress levels and helps to sleep better. It also helps you obtain a stage of relaxation, avoid mood swings, improve self-esteem, and achieve a state of personal satisfaction.

An extensive physical activity routine includes four kinds of activities:

  • Aerobic Exercise
  • Flexibility Exercise
  • Strength Training Exercise
  • Balance Exercise

02: Healthy Eating

All human beings have to eat food for growth and support of a healthy body, but we humans have different nutrition requirements at every stage of life. A healthy diet is achieved by including all the classic food but in the right proportions and with the correct quantity. The main target should be to maintain the nutritional needs of the body and give us enough energy for the day.

Eat more fruits and vegetables: Eat more fruits and vegetables because they contain lots of vitamins, minerals and fiber. As much as possible you should consume vitamins and minerals through your daily diet.

Wholegrain and fiber: Try to intake wholegrain and fiber. Wholegrain are an important source of dietary fiber and also have specific health benefits. Eat a wholegrain cereal, pasta, noodles or bread as part of everyday meal.

Cut down on processed food: Processed foods are not good because most nutritional value is lost in the making of these foods and the added preservatives are harmful for our health so we should cut down processed food. Many processed foods contain high amount of salt or sugar content, which leads to higher blood pressure, higher blood sugar and heart disease. 

Reduce salt and sugar intake: A high intake of salt and sugar can result in high blood pressure and sugar. It increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. When shopping, we should choose products with lower sodium and sugar content. When cocking they can be reduced.

By choosing good food can make a really big difference to your health and wellbeing. Eating healthy food can lower your risk of developing health problems, improve symptoms and feel healthier.

03: Drink Plenty of Fluids

Adults need to drink at least 1.5 litres of fluid a day or more if it is very hot or they are physically active because dehydration can make them feel tired. Most of us don’t drink enough water in a day. Water is very important for our body to function. 60% or above of our body is made up of water. Water is necessary to carry out body functions, remove waste, and carry oxygen around the body. Drinking of water help us to lose weight.

The amount of water we need is depends on various factors such as humidity, physical activity, body functions and body weight.

Don’t drink alcohol: Alcohol is diuretic, which means it drains water from your body and brings more urine. Not only that, but alcohol is often proven to have negative effects on our body and health. Alcohol puts bad impacts on the function of our brain, liver, lungs, and other major organs.

Cut down soda and sugary drinks: Avoid sodas and sugary drinks because they make some people hungrier and more food consumption. Unfortunately sugary drinks are sold everywhere in the form of soda and sweet fruit drinks. These drinks are unhealthy and cause weight gain and many other health issues. Go for plain water, green tea or fresh juices instead.

Bring a water bottle with you when go out. That way, you can drink whenever you need.

04: Get Enough Sleep

Distress sleep increases appetite and body weight, and decreases brain functions. Lack of sleep causes premature aging also. So proper sleep helps boost your energy, maintenances weight and ability to think and concentrate.

If have sleep deprivation, try relaxation techniques such as meditation and yoga. Or eat a small bedtime snack of foods like whole grain cereal with milk, oatmeal or chamomile tea, helps the body and mind to shift into sleep mode.

When you don’t take rest well, usually you eat more junk food. Get enough sleep and you don’t need to snacks to stay awake.

05: Be Positive and Love Yourself

Research shows a healthy positive attitude and self-love helps build a healthier immune system and boosts overall health. Self-love is an essential part of living a healthy life. Your body believes what you think, so focus on the positive thinking.When you have a negative self-image, it naturally considers your mental outlook and health down.

Remove negative people from your life: Positive mental health is crucial part of life. You don’t need venomous people in your life, so let them go.

Remove negativity from yourself: Get rid of your negative thoughts, you don’t need negativity from yourself either. When you feel frustrated, listen to the thoughts that come up, write down on a paper and dump them.

Keep good company: The healthier people are those who have company with other healthy people. You can do all the right things if you have personal relationships with good people. Get your family and friends involved with you when you plan a trip or outdoor meal.

06: Stop Smoking

Smoking is injurious to health, severely increases the risk of lung cancer, kidney cancer, heart attack and more. Coughs, wheezing and asthma are just the start of further difficulties. Smoking causes 84% of deaths from lung cancer and 83% of deaths from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in the world.

If you are smoker, quit not just for yourself, but for your family and friends because second-hand smoking also causes many of the same long-term diseases as direct smoking.

When you smoke, the poisons from the cigarettes enter your blood, make the blood thicker and increase the chances of clot formation. Increases blood pressure and narrows your arteries, reducing the amount of oxygen rich blood circulation in organs.

If you quit smoking, you will have back your health. You will be able to exercise and more physically active. Your sense of taste and smell will come back to normal. You will save your money.
