A sleep disorder in which a patient feels difficulty in sleeping is known as insomnia. In insomnia difficulty falling asleep us followed by waking up in the night and troubles returning to sleep. In sleep disorder patient often feels tired upon waking. There are five types of insomnia( sleep disorder ):
- Acute Insomnia
- Chronic Insomnia
- Comorbid Insomnia
- Onset Insomnia
- Maintenance Insomnia
A rare prion disease that disturbs the sleeping cycle and leads to a downturn of mental function and decrease in brain coordination. It has two types.
Familial: It is an inherited form of insomnia and caused by a mutation in the gene, which fails in the production of a normal protein called cellular prion protein (PrPC).
Sporadic: This is non-genetical insomnia and is not transferred in the family continuously.
These two types of insomnia differ from other types of insomnia as they affect and deteriorate only one thalamus of the brain, which controls the sleep cycle.
In fatal familial insomnia, symptoms may dominate in the person of age 20s to the early 70s. It may cause the death of the patient after 7 to 73 months of its beginning. The sporadic form starts later, and life expectancy is comparatively longer.
Several women face difficulties in sleeping during pregnancy. In their first trimesters, pregnant women usually tend to get more sleep but they face trouble in the quality of their sleep. In this way, a pregnant woman feels exhausted all day long. This is known as pregnancy insomnia.

If you feel very hard to work during day time, visit your doctor to identify the cause and type of your sleeplessness. In case of serious complications in the sleep cycle, you may be referred to a sleep center by your doctor for further testing.

Stress: Stress may be the basic reason for chronic insomnia because it directly affects your brain, especially the thalamus part.
Travel and work schedule:
If you follow a circadian rhythm in your sleeping cycle and sometimes you have to change the habits according to your work schedule, it may also cause insomnia.
Poor sleep habits:
Poor sleep habits, irregular bedtime, not a suitable environment, naps, stimulating activities before bed, may cause insomnia.
Eating too much in the evening:
Having too much eaten at night may cause insomnia due to heartburn and acidic reflux in the oesophagus. Insomnia can be related to medical conditions or the use of certain drugs. Mindfulness meditation
